OBSERVATIONS
Thousands
of plastic products including
automotive assemblies had been analyzed;
- About
80% of product assemblies had some imperfectly designed
features
- About
20% of plastic products had functional and durability problems
- About
90% of plastic products problems were directly design related.
KEY METHOD SEARCH
More
than 120 product development methods had been analyzed for
their features as the engineering tools
for
the design errors detection and elimination. The analyzed
methods are just different ways of collecting
the
specific information or different ways of operating with
the collected knowledge. Those methods do not
replace
knowledge, therefore design errors maybe undetected. "We
will not improve what we do not know".
DESIGN EXPERTISE
Product
excellence can be achieved only with a great knowledge of
all aspects of the
designed product,
with
well developed design method and proper control of the design
process. Very specific and extensive
knowledge
is usually owned by few experts in most of organizations.
There
are several variations of the
design
quality control techniques as combinations
of
the three main practices.
DESIGN GUIDELINE
There
are 188 design features predisposed for potential errors
on the plastics products. Each feature has
several
small details that must be developed correctly. KRAK Design
Guideline with its Design Checklist
is
the most extensive index of the lessons learned recommendations
for
the
plastic products design
and
the
most powerful system for design faults detection and elimination
at any stage of the design process.
